Traveling Up the California Coast | 10 0n 10 January

I’ve joined a photography blog circle for 2017.  On the 10th of each month, I’ll be sharing 10 photos from the previous month.   This month, I’ll be sharing from our trip. All photos below were taken with the iPhone 7s.

To celebrate Christmas in 2016, JD and I decided we wanted to take the boys on a trip to someplace warm.  After throwing out everything from Florida to Cabo, we settled on driving up the Pacific Highway.  We flew into San Diego, then spent 11 days making our way up the coast, ending in San Francisco.

We were all awake by 5:30 a.m. every morning.  Jeremiah often worked in workbooks to pass the time until we would finally relent and allow them to turn on the tv.

Jacob carried his selfie stick in his sack pack, so I would give him my phone to take family group shots alone the trip.  This was taken at the San Diego Zoo.

One of the highlights of the trip for the younger boys was LEGOLAND, although they all liked the Star Wars part of the park.

Once we made are way up the coast, we enjoyed stopping at beaches, watching the waves crash, exploring tide pools, and spotting seals.

Jacob, re-enacting the Karate Kid.

We especially enjoyed our two days in Big Sur.  We hiked to the top of Buzzards Peak.  We saw waterfalls.  We loved the winding road with its high drop-offs.  We want to go back and spend more time in this area.

Not the greatest picture, but it is hard to get them to all stand still at the same moment.  These five growing kids, aged 6-16, are the delight of my life.  They make me laugh.  They make me angry.  They make me want to be a better mom and person.

We wandered about Alcatraz.  The older boys found the stories about it fascinating. The younger boys pretended what it would be like to be imprisoned on The Rock.

We walked up the famous Lombard Street. We did a lot of walking on this trip, and our Garmin step-counters predicted that in the 11 days of traveling we did 55+ miles! We did not come home rested, but we came home satisfied and happy.

Here’s Joey on a San Francisco city bus after we visited Golden Gate Bridge.  This little guy is a ferocious bundle of energy.  He kept up with his brothers each daily, but crashed once he returned to the hotel room.

That’s a bird’s eye view of our trip! Thanks for stopping by and make sure to head over to my new friend Luciane Steiner’s blog.
