Oh, How I Hate Spring | May 10 on 10

Oh, how I hate spring! Wait, did I type that? Do I really hate spring?  The season of soft baby chicks, fresh grass, flowering trees, and warm sunshine? The time when life springs forth, and we all celebrate the end of a cold dark winter–do I really hate that and all that it stands for? Probably not. I just hate the busyness that invades my house each spring.  My two oldest boys are on the track team, going in different directions to both middle school and high school meets. My third son is on an improv team, plus has piano, so many filled night’s on the calendar are from piano...

A Look at Me | 10 on 10 March

Last month, I shared with you a glimpse of my boys, so this month I’m turning the lens on myself and sharing a few of my favorite self-portraits.  At this point, no one else in my family has the same passion for photography as me.  If I want to be in the picture, I have to take it myself! My first self-portrait, 2009.  Taken back when I carried my camera everywhere, I noticed the light reflecting off the large mirror at the local salon. At my desk. I take a lot of photos at my desk because I spend a lot of time there! I try to find creative angles and new looks to capture my routines...

About my boys | 10 on 10

If you start a conversation with me regarding running, photography, dyslexia, clean-eating, or traveling, you’ll probably learn a few things and move on.  But, if you ask me about my boys, prepare yourself for the onslaught of a proud, mama-bear ready to share too many details about her ever-changing sons.  So, sit back, grab your coffee, and meet my sons. Say hello to Jacob. A junior in high school, he attends the local community college full-time. He’s the drummer in the family, and his skill is being recognized. He plays in the jazz band at Johnson County Community College and...

Traveling Up the California Coast | 10 0n 10 January

I’ve joined a photography blog circle for 2017.  On the 10th of each month, I’ll be sharing 10 photos from the previous month.   This month, I’ll be sharing from our trip. All photos below were taken with the iPhone 7s. To celebrate Christmas in 2016, JD and I decided we wanted to take the boys on a trip to someplace warm.  After throwing out everything from Florida to Cabo, we settled on driving up the Pacific Highway.  We flew into San Diego, then spent 11 days making our way up the coast, ending in San Francisco. We were all awake by 5:30 a.m. every morning.  Jeremiah...

Planes, Trains and Automobiles. . .

Planes, Trains and Automobiles. . .

For almost 16 years, Thomas the Train has been a fixture in our house. Before Jacob’s first Christmas, Kelly and I had several discussions about what type of toys would last the test of time.   Of course the toys also had to be fun. . . for both Jacob and Dad! Christmas day came and a figure 8 track with Thomas the Tank Engine was under the tree.  Not sure who had more fun with that toy that Christmas. . . .Jacob or me.  Since that time our collection has grown. “We need more curve tracks.  And could also use some more straight pieces as well,” was often my advice to Mama when asking for...

Around the Dinner Table. . . .

Around the Dinner Table. . . .

For years it was merely a round table that sat in the corner of our family kitchen.   The significance wasn’t in the object but in what was done around it. Whether we liked it or not, family dinner was a fact of life.  Our seat order never changed.  There was no “skipping” dinner.  And the cardinal rules were:  take some of everything, clear your plate and be pleasant. This is where we had the “opportunity” to eat lima beans for Dad’s birthday, because they were his favorite vegetable.  This is where my radishes would strike up imaginary conversations with each other in order to liven up the...
